Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM)

To accelerate the efforts to achieve a Swachh Bharat, Swachh Prayatan and bring focus on hygiene & sanitation, Ministry of Tourism has setup a Project Monitoring Unit for Swachh Bharat Mission on 9th December, 2015. The mission aims to achieve neat and clean touirst places which attract more Foreign and Domestic Tourists. The SBM Division also co-ordinate the Swachhta Awareness activities among Tourists, School and College students and touirst stakeholders.

Functions of the Swachh Bharat Division

  • To serve as athe secretariat for the Swachh Bharat Mission

  • Assistance in formulation of strategies related to Swachh Bharat Mission

  • Monitoring of Project taken up patnership with division of the Monthly.

  • Inspection Projects being implemented

  • Interaction with the other Ministries, State/UTs and the stakeholders through approiate means including meetigs, confernces and workshops to take the initiative forward through State agencies.

  • To Update Swachh Bharat Mission/Swachhta Samiksha/Swachhta Action plan(SAP) website on a regular basis maintanied by Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation.

Swachhta Action Plan (SAP)

Ministry of Tourism formulates a Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) for creating awraness amongst Tourist,School/ College students and Tourism stakeholders. The following three majior activities are under taken Swachhta Action Plan (SAP)

Activity-I

Creating awarness to Tourist about sanitation and Cleanliness at Touirst/Pilgrim centers by holding awraness campaigns.

Activity-II

Oranizing Taluk level school/college students and Cleanliness activities in their places-campigns/ytraining for trainers/NCC/NSS Corps involvement/local youth club etc.

Activity-III

Holdings of seminars/conferences/Workshops with the stackeholders of Tourist centers, Pilgrim centers, famous Archaeological mounments/Temples, forts, churches, Moaques, holy tombs, Gurudwaras etc. and identified/selected sites with the thrust on preventing of open defacation and relieving in the public or road side.

  • Ministry of Tourism carried out Swachhta Action Plan activities at 270 sites (810 activities in total) in all 36 States/UTs to create awarness among tourist, School / college students and stake-holders of touirst centers inthe current FY 2018-2019.

  • The act on Cleanliness awareness among touirst is expected to cover 1000 touirst, 500 students and 60 stake-holders at each site. the campaign is being conducted through the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Managment (IITTM), Gwalior.

Swachhta Pakhwada (SP)

Activities undertaken by Ministry of Tourism during the Swachhta Pakhwada Observed during 16th-30th September, 2018.

  • Ministry of Tourism had organized Swachhta Pakhwada initiating various cleanliness drvies within the offices of Ministry, its field offices as well as its educational institutes.

  • Cleanliness campaigns were organized at important touirst spots all over country.

  • To inculcate competitiveness on cleanliness activities among various offices and educational institutes of Ministry of Tourism, nine awrads were presented for the best maintained offices/ educational institutions for the yaer 2017-2018.

  • A National level Quiz and essay wirting competition was also organized for the students of Institions under MoT from all over the country.

Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS)

Activities undertaken by Ministry of Tourism during the Swachhta Hi Seva Observed during 15th September to 2nd October, 2018.

  • The Hon'ble Minister for Tourism, Shri K.J.Alphons 15th Sep.2018 initiated the cleanliness drive around the Sai MAndir premises in New Delhi. The Hon'ble Minister Tourism administered a pledge on Swachhta, the participants' including students and faculty of IHM and Indian Institue of Travel and Tourism Managment (IITTM), officals of MoT, devotees from the Sai temple and local residents, member of the regional level touirst guide associations also participated in the drive.

  • Major clean-up activities, Pledge swearing, Awareness activities, Essay competitions, Nukkad Natak were organized during the "Swachhta hi Seva" campaign.

  • Programmes were organized at various touirst/ piligrim places through its Indiatourism Offices at more than 130 places all over the country incluiding Iconic sites with the involvement of celebrities in Coordination with State Goverments educational institutes under Ministry of Tourism, Public and industry associations.

Swachhta Awards

The awards presented during National Tourism (27th September)

  • To encourage State/ UT Goverments to maintain the touirst place clean, Ministry of Tourism has instituted awards category titled "Swachhta Awards" and "Best Civic Managment of a Tourist Destination in India Awards" in the National Tourism Awrads.

  • The following awards were given away during the National Tourism Awards function held on 27th September 2018 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

  • Govt. of Madhya Pradesh had been selected for the Swachhta Award for the year 2016-17.

  • Best Civic Managment of a Tourist Destination in India Award were given under 3 categories to

    • (i) Hyderabad in Telangana for the best maintained City.

    • (ii) Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh for best maintained Townand

    • (iii) Saputara Hill station in Gujrat for best maintained Village.

Infrastructure creation of SBM

  • Infrastructure creation is done through projects sanctioned unde PRASHAD Swadesh Darshan Schemes.

  • The Swachhta components under Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD are construction of Tiolet blocks, Solid waste Managment system including garbage bins, septic tanks, soak pits, STP, Public Covenience/ Tiolet, Sewerage / Drainage System ect.

  • The activities to be undertaken are as the scheme guidelines of PRASHAD and Swadesh Darshan and as a part of Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD Projects.
